Congratulations to Local 916’s Teresa Haley
for her recent recognitions.
The IDOT training and education program
manager, and local civil rights leader won the
Activist of the Year at the 51st NAACP Image
Awards. The awards dinner, held in Hollywood, CA, and aired on BET, also honoredGrammy Award winner Bebe Winans and
actor Forest Whitaker.
The Image Awards were established to shine
a spotlight on black excellence nationwide.
Haley is the president of the local branch of
the NAACP and the NAACP Illinois State
Conference. She was the first female to be
named president of the state NAACP. She
recently brought the organization’s chapters
from all over Illinois to Local 916’s The Hall
for their state-wide annual meeting.
Haley is also the current (2019) recipient of
the First Citizen award, presented annually
by the State Journal-Register newspaper in
Springfield to “distinctive, community minded individuals who have made serving
our community a priority in their work, life
and leisure.”
Congratulations, Teresa!
